"16All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking,
correcting and training in righteousness, 17so that the man of God may be
thoroughly equipped for every good work." 2Tim 3:16-17
It is vital for the Christian to understand the importance of God's Word. Here it the importance of accepting all of the Bible as God's Word as a Christian.
We must accept the Word... no questions asked. Sometimes we use our heads to much and don't let the Holy Spirit lead us. I have had discussions with some people as of late who do not believe what the Bible says AND they claim to be Christians. They don't believe Genesis is literal, they don't believe any of the miraulous accounts of scripture; they don't believe the Bible to be historical, rather they believe it is a book of lessons on Christian living. How can a person not believe the contents and historicity of the Bible and truely be a Christian. Oh, these people say that they believe and have confessed that Jesus Christ is Lord; to which I can't say anything one way or the other. What it comes down to is the Fear of the Lord, a lack thereof. When we Fear God we respect Him and what He says in His Word. This means we believe everything in Scripture to be true, including historically, from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21. Now some of these people I mentioned will say, "Oh that's how you interprete scripture and that interpreatation is wrong." They use the excuse
that "this passage was written to this person or that people group and thus does
not apply to 'me'." This is a lack of the Fear of the Lord. When we Fear God we
believe and obey His WORD. So it is imparative for Christians to believe the Bible
and obey it. To do otherwise does not show Fear for the Lord and that we truely don't believe the Bible.
One other note: It is the Holy Spirit who opens our spiritual eyes in order to understand what God is saying in His word as well and being able to believe the Word.
If you are unable to believe that God and/or the Bible are real and true, pray and ask the Holy Spirit to open your spiritual eyes to see the wonderful and glorious truth of God. If you wish here is a sample prayer:
"Holy Spirit, I admit that I doubt and am without belief in You, God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ. I ask that you open my spiritual eyes and help me to believe and know the truth about you and lay aside all lies that have been spoken or thought of in my past. God help my unbelief. Amen!"
From this point on I will be discussing the truth in God's word, from Genesis to Revelation and any topic that may come up along that way that relates to truth, the Bible and God. Next post will be starting with Genesis and the the question: Is sin real?
